Description:

Celebrate the tradition of dying the Chicago River green. Green River soda was introduced to Midwestern drinkers in 1919, just as Congress was passing the 18th Amendment establishing Prohibition. When Prohibition officially went into effect in 1920, The Schoenhofen Edelweiss Brewing Company of Chicago turned to Green River Soda. This refreshing lime flavored soda got its name from the Chicago River where the water was green before they processed it. Over time, the tradition of dying the Chicago River green for St. Patrick’s Day is because of the 1919 green river.
