<p>While the Mint Julep is synonymous with the greatest 2 minutes in all of sports, the Kentucky Derby- this well known cocktail was created here, in Washington, DC! Mint, bourbon, simple syrup and crushed iced was first served at the Round Robin bar in the Willard Hotel sometime around 1810. However, southerner’s have long been prescribed a “julep” as a sweet drink that makes medicine go down a little easier. Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, adopted this cocktail as the official drink in 1938. On Saturday May 4th, derby officials plan to serve over 120, 000 Mint Juleps.</p>
